    WHAT HAPPENED?

The Blues are desperate to land the Nigerian hotshot and according to Gianluca Di Marzio, they could offer a package of £77 million (€90m/$96m) and two players, one of them a youngster. The other is rumoured to be Romelu Lukaku, who is currently on loan at Serie A side Roma.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chelsea's desire to bring in Osimhen is understandable given he has bagged 14 goals in 22 league matches this season for a struggling Napoli side, three more than Lukaku in seven fewer games. The ex-Lille striker is also only 25 years of age and as such, the Blues face stiff competition to acquire his signature this summer - most notably from Paris Saint-Germain.

In 2022/23, Osimhen enjoyed the most prolific campaign by an African player in Serie A history, bagging 26 goals as Napoli claimed their first Scudetto since the halcyon days of Diego Maradona in 1989/90. Osimhen also boasts an impressive international record, netting 21 times in 35 appearances for Nigeria.
