For the first time since 2020, the MLS Cup playoffs will serve up a familiar postseason clash, Minnesota United versus the Seattle Sounders, with Game 1 of their best-of-three showdown set for Monday night at Allianz Field.
The matchup has all the makings of a heavyweight Western Conference battle. Minnesota finished fourth, three points clear of fifth-placed Seattle, even after suffering a 2-1 defeat to the LA Galaxy on Decision Day. The Sounders, on the other hand, wrapped up their regular season in style, edging New York City FC by that same 2-1 scoreline.

Team news & squads
Minnesota United team news
The Loons enter this series with a few fitness worries of their own. Carlos Harvey is set to miss out due to a knee injury, while Jeong Ho-yeon remains sidelined after suffering a torn cruciate ligament. Their lone bright spot in that Galaxy loss came through Joaquin Pereyra, who found the net to round off an otherwise frustrating night.
Between the sticks, Dayne St. Clair continues to prove why he's one of MLS's premier shot-stoppers. Fresh off a Goalkeeper of the Year nomination, his league-best 78.9% save rate in 2025 speaks volumes, he's been the backbone of Minnesota’s playoff push.
Seattle Sounders FC team news
Seattle, though, aren't exactly at full strength either. Star midfielder Pedro De la Vega faces a race against time after limping off with a knee issue in the regular-season finale. Defensive rocks Yeimar Gomez Andrade and Ryan Kent are nursing muscle strains, while Paul Arriola continues his long recovery from a serious knee injury.
Even so, the Sounders rarely go quietly. Jordan Morris and Jackson Ragen both struck in the second half against NYCFC to seal three points, showcasing the club's trademark resilience. Meanwhile, rising talent Obed Vargas earned a Young Player of the Year nomination, a nod to Seattle's ability to blend youth with experience.
