Argentina, already crowned group leaders, host Venezuela in Buenos Aires on Thursday in a World Cup qualifier that carries far greater weight for the visitors than the reigning champions.
Lionel Scaloni's side have long secured their ticket to the tournament, but Venezuela still have everything to play for as they chase the last-gasp CONMEBOL playoff berth in their remaining two fixtures.

Team news & squads
Argentina team news
With top spot guaranteed, Scaloni faces a choice: stick with his seasoned core or give more minutes to emerging stars such as Nico Paz and Franco Mastantuono, both of whom are included once again. One certainty, however, is Lionel Messi, who looks set to collect his 194th cap. His Inter Miami teammate Rodrigo De Paul should also feature, keeping his place in spite of his MLS switch.
Notably, Enzo Fernández misses out through suspension, while Lisandro Martínez remains sidelined by injury. The continued absences of Paulo Dybala and Matías Soulé, both overlooked once more, also catch the eye.
Venezuela team news
For Venezuela, injury rules out first-choice keeper José Contreras, meaning Rafael Romo should stay between the posts ahead of Wuilker Fariñez. Manager Fernando Batista is expected to stick largely with the same lineup that fell to Uruguay, though some squad rotation could come into play with an eye on next week’s crucial home clash. Jefferson Savarino may notch his 50th cap, though he could once again be held back as an impact option from the bench.
The visitors will also have to cope without Yangel Herrera, the Girona midfielder, absent through injury after missing his club’s defeat to Sevilla. His absence leaves a sizeable void in the heart of Venezuela’s midfield.
