Yainer Diaz and the Houston Astros will roll into Fenway Park on Friday with their sights set on outshining Alex Bregman and the surging Boston Red Sox in what promises to be an entertaining American League showdown.

Houston enters the series with a bit of wind back in their sails after snapping out of a five-game funk. The Astros were surprisingly swept in four straight games at home by the lowly Athletics, then dropped the series opener to Washington before rebounding with two much-needed victories over the Nationals to steady the ship.

The Red Sox, meanwhile, are trending in the right direction as they fight to stay in the playoff picture. Boston has claimed wins in four of its last five, picking up a series victory over the star-studded Dodgers at home before notching two more wins in a road set against the Twins.

Here, GOAL brings you everything you need to know about how to watch Boston Red Sox vs Houston Astros MLB game, plus plenty more.

Boston Red Sox vs Houston Astros team news

Boston Red Sox team news

Boston, however, won’t be an easy out. Jarren Duran has been setting the tone atop the Red Sox order and enters the series with a six-game hitting streak. Over his last 10 appearances, Duran is batting .324 with three homers, six walks, and 10 RBIs, flashing his usual speed and gap power with four doubles and two triples mixed in.

Ceddanne Rafaela has been another key contributor, hitting .262 with 21 doubles and 14 home runs on the season. He ranks inside the top 100 in both home runs and RBIs, a sign of his growing impact in the lineup. Trevor Story leads the club with 65 RBIs, while Wilyer Abreu has been the team’s primary source of power, launching a team-best 20 homers.

Boston had yet to name a starting pitcher for Friday’s contest at the time of writing, but whoever gets the call will need to be sharp against a Houston lineup that’s slowly regaining its rhythm.

Houston Astros team news

Veteran second baseman José Altuve continues to be a cornerstone for Houston’s offense. He’s driven in 57 runs this year, ranking inside the league’s top 50 in RBIs and top 40 in home runs. Altuve carries a modest two-game hit streak into the weekend and has been swinging it well lately, hitting .350 over his last five contests with a homer and four runs batted in.

Yainer Diaz has also been heating up. The Astros backstop is slashing .252 on the season with 14 doubles, 15 homers, and a .400 average across his last five games, including a pair of long balls and four RBIs. Mauricio Dubón has quietly provided a spark too, batting .269 and entering Friday with a five-game hit streak. He’s hitting .412 over that stretch with a couple of doubles and a pair of runs driven in.

Houston will hand the ball to right-hander Hunter Brown for the opener. Brown has been a rock in the rotation, sporting a 9-5 record along with a sparkling 2.54 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over 124 innings this season.
