Former Melbourne Victory striker Archie Thompson is set to return to where his football career began after signing a guest contract with Victorian second division club Murray United.
Murray United revealed their recruitment shock on Tuesday with the NPL Victoria 2 club securing Thompson for at least three matches this year, although according to a report in The Border Mail, the 38-year-old could play as many as 10 games.
Thompson was a guest player with Heidelberg United in Victoria's top division last year after finishing his 11-year career with Victory.

Joining Murray United will take Thompson back to where he first started playing football after moving to Wodonga from New Zealand where he was born.
The livewire forward broke through in the National Soccer League with Gippsland Falcons in the late 1990s and went on to play for Carlton and Marconi before heading to Belgian Pro League club Lierse in 2001.
Victory made Thompson their inaugural marquee player for the opening A-League season of 2005-06 and he quickly became a fan favourite, scoring the club's first competitive goal and finishing his career with 90 goals for the Big V.

Besart Berisha surpassed Thompson as the A-League's all-time leading scorer earlier this month, while the latter's appearances record at Victory was broken by Leigh Broxham last week.
Murray United finished second bottom of NPL Victoria 2's East division last year after winning just three of 28 matches.
