Who is Bendeguz Kovacs, the Hungarian giant who has caught Juventus’s eye?

Juventus continues to scour the European football scene in search of the best prospects for the future. Among the names under the Bianconeri management’s microscope is that of Bendegúz Kovács, a Hungarian striker born in 2007 who is making a name for himself in AZ Alkmaar’s youth academy.

The Turin club is reportedly keeping a close eye on the young centre-forward, who is considered one of the most promising attacking talents of the new generation.

  • A MODERN CENTRE-FORWARD

Born on 31 March 2007 in Fehérgyarmat, Hungary, Kovács is a left-footed centre-forward with an imposing physical build. Standing at around 1.99 metres tall, he embodies the archetype of the modern centre-forward, capable of combining strength and agility. His profile has caught the eye of scouts due to his combination of physical power, aerial dominance and a keen eye for goal. These are characteristics that have made tall, imposing strikers highly sought-after on the transfer market in recent years. Despite his age, Kovács is precisely the type of striker that Luciano Spalletti’s Juventus side has been lacking this season.

Despite his young age, Kovács is already a regular in the Hungary Under-19 national team, with several appearances and goals to his name.

  • FROM HUNGARY TO THE NETHERLANDS

Kovács’s football career began in his home country, but the talented Hungarian soon chose the Netherlands to complete his development. Firstcame his time in the Ajax youth system, followed by a move to AZ Alkmaar, a club with a long-standing reputation for nurturing young talent.

It was whilst wearing the AZ shirt that the centre-forward began to make his mark on a consistent basis. In his final season in the Dutch U19 league, he scored 14 goals in 14 matches, figures that made him one of the most prolific strikers in the division. His performances have also opened the doors to Jong AZ, the club’s reserve side competing in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, the Dutch second tier, where he has already begun to rack up valuable minutes against more experienced opponents. In this league, Kovacs has scored 5 goals in 7 appearances.

  • YOUTH LEAGUE, THE EUROPEAN STAGE

Another key platform for Kovács’s development was the UEFA Youth League, a competition in which the young striker demonstrated great composure in front of goal, scoring nine goals in six matches and maintaining a very high goals-per-game average. In total, across the Dutch second division, the Dutch U19 league, the Dutch U19 Cup and the Youth League, the 2007-born player has played 31 matches this season, scoring 29 goals.

These performances have inevitably caught the attention of scouts from various European clubs.

  • Juve in the transfer window

In recent years, Juventus has chosen to invest heavily in young international talent, focusing on promising prospects to be gradually integrated into the squad. The most obvious example is Kenan Yildiz, who arrived at a very young age and went on to break into the first team.

This strategy also includes a focus on Kovács. Juventus scouts are reportedly monitoring his development closely to assess a potential investment for the future. A striker standing at almost two metres (1.99m), with already impressive statistics in European youth competitions: the name Bendegúz Kovács could be one of the next to be noted in Juventus’ transfer notebook.
