    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The 2014 World Cup winner has spent his entire career so far at Bayern and marked the end of an era when he left after his contract expired this summer. With the World Cup approaching, MLS clubs continue to target high-profile names to raise the league’s profile. Meanwhile, the Sydney Morning Herald reports Australia’s Sydney FC made a strong pitch for Muller, reportedly leaving a positive impression despite the long odds. Securing his signature would be a historic moment for the A-League.

  • WHAT MULLER SAID

Muller confirmed his intention to keep playing professionally, saying: "I still want to play football and have therefore decided to continue playing no matter what. I will continue to be a footballer. I'm trying to take advantage of the opportunity while my body is still fit enough to continue doing so at the highest level, even though I'm obviously no longer in Europe."

The 35-year-old also officially confirmed that he will be leaving Germany, embracing the idea of a new chapter abroad: "It will definitely be an international experience for me, and I'm really looking forward to it, and I'm curious. The MLS is of course an interesting league. Certainly, with a view to the World Cup next year in America."
