  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Chelsea had a 1-0 lead as half-time approached in the Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge on Monday. However, deep in stoppage time, a corner was sent swinging into the Blues' box and despite Sanchez managing to catch it, he dropped it off Moises Caicedo's back, allowing Matt Doherty to fire in the equaliser from close range.

    WHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING

Sanchez's error sparked an angry reaction on social media, with many advising the London club to get rid of the divisive shot stopper.

"SELL ROBERT SANCHEZ NOW AT HALFTIME IMMEDIATELY," X user @melinadautovic posted, a point reiterated by @AlexGoldberg_, who said: "GET ROBERT SANCHEZ OUT OF MY FOOTBALL CLUB".

Another fan, @tovers98, said: "Robert Sanchez is not good enough. No ifs, no buts, no maybes."

"Abysmal from Sanchez," wrote @CFCCentral3. "Single handedly gifting the opposition the initiative, and not for the first time in his Chelsea career."

Meanwhile, @cbwftbl said: "Nah man Sanchez is actually an embarrassment I’m sorry. Had nothing to do all half and fluffs his lines at the first opportunity. Wolves gifted a goal from nowhere. Ridiculous."

"More than Robert Sanchez now I question the manager. Why Enzo Maresca needs to play him week in week out when you've got Jorgenson on the bench," said @TheDrogBABA.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

The 27-year-old, who joined from Brighton in 2023, has faced a great deal of criticism for glaring errors already this season, with the Enzo Maresca being urged to drop the three-time Spain international. Maresca has stuck by the under-fire player, however, and has trusted him to start all but two of their league games this season.
