Paul Pogba could not hold back tears after signing his contract for Monaco on Saturday. The French midfielder is all set to return to a football pitch after a near two-year exile due to a doping ban. The midfielder has been without a club since November last year when Juventus terminated his contract after a mutual agreement, but the 32-year-old has now signed a two year contract with the Ligue 1 team.

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    On Saturday, Monaco confirmed the arrival of Pogba on a free transfer, as the Frenchman committed his future to the Ligue 1 giants for two years. The former Manchester United and Juventus star last played for the Bianconeri in September 2023, after which he was suspended due to a doping scandal.

    The World Cup-winning France international was suspended after testing positive during a random check following Juventus’ 2023-24 season opener against Udinese. Initially handed a four-year suspension for the presence of DHEA, a substance that boosts testosterone and appears on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s banned list, Pogba saw his punishment reduced to 18 months following an appeal.

    The relief at finally ending his long search for a new club was evident when he put pen to paper at Monaco, as he could not hold back the tears.

    WHAT NEXT FOR POGBA?

    Pogba will aim to make the most of the opportunity he has received from Monaco in the 2025-26 campaign to regain his form and confidence. If the player can impress with performances in the upcoming season, he might get an opportunity to return to the French national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup in North America.
