Martin Odegaard admits he has 'not been good enough' for Arsenal but captain vows to 'step up' as he insists Premier League title is still possible for Mikel Arteta's men

Odegaard has scored just two Premier League goals this season, failing to hit his previous high standards as the Gunners attempt to catch Liverpool at the top. He admits he should have been better but is confident there is still time to make his impact felt between now and the end of May.

It looks set to be another Premier League season in which Arsenal fall short, with Liverpool their nemesis this time rather than Manchester City. Odegaard insists his side have not given up, and can cut the gap to 13 points with a game in hand by beating Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, but a string of injuries and tepid performances seem to have ended their chances.

Odegaard said: "I'm very used to people speaking about me, judging my performances and I think I do the myself. I'm harder on myself and I know that I have not been good enough especially in front of goal so that’s normal."

Of Arsenal's title chances he added: "We'll fight until the end. We've been fighting three years in a row for the title and you go a couple of years back, then we were leading with a lot of points and we finished second. It shows that everything is possible."

Sunday's trip to Manchester is the start of a busy week for Arsenal, who host PSV in the second leg of a Champions League tie that they already lead 7-1 at the Emirates on Wednesday. Chelsea then visit north London next Sunday.
