Erling Haaland:
A memorable game for lots of reasons but maybe not the usual ones by the Norwegian's standards.
He only had one chance and took it brilliantly and the celebrations were happy if a little muted. It was clearly a special occasion for the striker who had such a fantastic time in Germany and he was delighted to see so many familiar faces.
Every member of the Dortmund staff got a handshake at full-time and he will hope his return to Signal Iduna Park will be just as special.
John Stones:
Was this his Vincent Kompany moment?
Not quite as dramatic as the City skipper's thunderbolt against Leicester that helped clinch the 2019 title, but it was equally unexpected when he smashed in his fierce strike from the edge of the box that sent City back on the road to recovery.
Stones is no stranger to the scoresheet but generally they come from set-pieces, so his brilliant goal will be one he will treasure.
Jude Bellingham:
His quality is no secret in England, but it always helps to send a reminder by performing against one of the Premier League's big sides.
Just over two months away from the World Cup, England fans will have enjoyed seeing another mature performance from the 19-year-old.
Bellingham's goal showed the sort of instinct associated with Haaland as he ghosted into the box almost unnoticed.
There were a few lung-busting runs to ease the pressure but he was just as assured screening his defence.
Winning mentality:
City keep going behind and keep finding a way to get the job done.
Comebacks already this season against Newcastle and Crystal Palace have salvaged four points in the Premier League and now this turnaround has put them on course for Champions League knockout qualification.
Of course, Pep Guardiola will want them to do it from the start, but at least can be impressed by his side's ability to fight back.
