    WHAT HAPPENED?

The 22-year-old looks set for a temporary move to relegation-threatened Granada, with United seemingly deciding against finding a permanent transfer for the player. The move will be the player's third loan move to Spain having played for Alaves in two separate spells.

Pellistri had been linked with a host of clubs from Villarreal to LA Galaxy but it seems he may have one last opportunity to make it at Old Trafford if he can impress in Andalucia.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Pellistri has struggled to make an impression in Manchester after joining from Peñarol for a fee of £9 million ($11.4m) in 2020. The Uruguayan has been largely limited to appearances from the bench and has only earned a Premier League start on one solitary occasion against Crystal Palace in September.

Pellistri will hope a successful spell at Granada combined with Sir Jim Ratcliffe's overhaul of United's dysfunctional performance structures will allow him to return with a chance of finally establishing himself as a first-team presence.

    DID YOU KNOW?

While club level remains a bit of a struggle, Pellistri can console himself with his fine form at international level and the fact that he seems to have impressed new Uruguay boss Marcelo Bielsa.

Pellistri has racked up 18 caps in just 19 months for La Celeste including a starring role in a thrilling World Cup qualifying win over Argentina in Buenos Aires in November.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR FACUNDO PELLISTRI?

The next few months at Granada are not for the faint-hearted. The club are mired in the relegation zone having won just two games all season. With a gap opening up between themselves and safety Granada will hope it's the Uruguay version of Pellistri that arrives in town.
