The Spurs are locking in their franchise floor general for the long haul.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Fox made the move to the Alamo City from Sacramento last season, a trade he reportedly pushed for, and brought his trademark explosiveness with him. Unfortunately, his debut campaign in Texas was cut short after just 17 games due to finger surgery. Still, he left a strong impression, putting up 19.7 points and 6.8 assists per night in limited action.

Prior to the midseason switch, the former All-Star and All-NBA guard was tearing it up for the Kings, averaging 25 points, 6.1 dimes, and 5 rebounds a game, reaffirming why he’s considered one of the most electric guards in the league.

Now, with his future firmly rooted in San Antonio, the Spurs are banking on Fox to be a central piece of their ongoing rebuild, and a spark plug alongside their growing young core.

    WHAT NEXT FOR SPURS?

San Antonio continues to build a formidable foundation, adding more firepower in the 2025 NBA Draft by snapping up standout guard Dylan Harper with the No. 2 overall pick. He joins a Spurs squad already anchored by All-Stars Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox, forming a trio brimming with star potential.

The Spurs weren’t done there—at No. 14, they scooped up Carter Bryant, a versatile 6-foot-7 wing out of Arizona, known for his two-way upside and high motor.

Both rookies step into a team already loaded with young talent and steady veterans. That includes reigning Kia Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle, who followed Wembanyama’s 2024 win by making it back-to-back rookie honors for the Spurs. Throw in seasoned names like Harrison Barnes, Jeremy Sochan, Devin Vassell, and Keldon Johnson, and you’ve got a well-balanced roster ready to make serious noise in the West.
