Isak unlikely to return to the Magpies’ squad

The betting markets currently believe there is a 65% chance for Alexander Isak to become a Liverpool player by Monday night. The Swedish international has made it very clear that he wants to move to Anfield, adding to the attacking riches of the defending Premier League champions.

Isak appears to have burnt his bridges on Tyneside too. His refusal to play and train with Eddie Howe’s first-team squad has caused a serious rift between him and the club.

It’s hard to see how the Newcastle fans could welcome Isak back into the fold if a move to Liverpool doesn’t materialise. That’s why Newcastle are working very hard to seal deals to replace Isak before sanctioning any possible departure to Merseyside.

If the Magpies make progress on deals for the likes of Yoanne Wissa and Jorgen Strand Larsen, Isak’s exit could accelerate rather quickly. It’s hard not to see Isak get his wish, with player power strongly increasing, which is why this still feels like a solid bet for the window.

Kobbie Mainoo to Real Madrid?

It’s emerged in recent weeks that Kobbie Mainoo has failed to establish a regular place in Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United squad. Reports suggest that the Portuguese thinks Mainoo doesn’t fit in his midfield system, with the 20-year-old midfielder potentially moving on before the window closes.

Several big clubs in Europe are thought to be interested. Mainoo is keen to play Champions League football to increase his chances of making England’s 2026 World Cup squad.

Spanish giants Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are said to be part of the conversation, with Premier League clubs Tottenham and Newcastle also showing interest. Real need reinforcements in midfield, and with the betting markets only giving him a 7.7% chance of moving to the Bernabeu, this could be another value pick.

Ollie Watkins to Newcastle?

For a large part of this summer’s transfer window, Aston Villa have appeared unprepared to part ways with star striker Ollie Watkins at any price.

Watkins has scored 75 goals in 186 games in a Villa jersey and may be eyed as a successor to Alexander Isak at Newcastle United. A recent report suggests that Villa may now be willing to part with Watkins at a premium price, especially with Unai Emery reportedly interested in Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson.

The betting markets state there is an 18% likelihood for Watkins to become a Newcastle player by Monday night. If Isak moves on, Watkins could be a prime target to replace the Swede.

Emi Martinez to stay at Aston Villa?

At the end of the 2024/25 Premier League season, there were several indications that Emi Martinez may have played his last game in goal for Aston Villa.

The Argentine was reportedly seen as a sacrificial figure for Villa, as the club apparently needed a sale to steer clear of PSR penalties. However, other transfer dealings have ensured that this is no longer the case.

Although Martinez was said to be interested in talking to Manchester United over a move to Old Trafford, the Red Devils were only prepared to loan him. Villa, in contrast, were seeking a substantial fee, which would allow them to reinvest in several areas of the squad.

With the transfer window closing in just hours, parting ways with Martinez now seems entirely off the table at Villa Park. The betting markets state there is only an 81% probability of Martinez staying, so despite the low odds, there could still be some worthwhile value to consider.

Harvey Elliott to Crystal Palace?

Harvey Elliott was born in Surrey and plied his early trade at clubs in London, so it’s no surprise to see the 22-year-old linked with a move to Crystal Palace this week.

The former Fulham forward has already been linked with RB Leipzig this month, as he searches for regular first-team football. With a World Cup fast approaching next summer, a successful season at a club like Crystal Palace could put him on Thomas Tuchel’s radar.

A move to Palace makes a lot of sense for a player born and bred in the capital. Palace also need a replacement for Eberechi Eze, and Elliott could tick lots of boxes. The Eagles can also offer Elliott European football in the Conference League.

The betting markets still have RB Leipzig priced as 42.1% favourites for Elliott’s signature, with Palace currently 14.3% underdogs. This transfer is certainly one to watch and could offer some serious value come Monday night.
