Ireland team news

Hallgrimsson made the bold call to leave out Ireland's beloved veteran captain Seamus Coleman, citing the Everton skipper's lack of game time at club level, while another veteran, Robbie Brady, is injured, meaning there will be a reshuffle in defence. The Icelandic coach was also dealt a blow with the news that Troy Parrott sustained a medial knee ligament injury, diminishing the Irish team's attacking options. Parrott scored the winner when these sides last met in June 2024.

However, the good news is that skilful playmaker Finn Azaz, fresh from a transfer to Southampton, has returned to the fold, as has winger Chiedozie Ogbene, who had been out injured, while Evan Ferguson comes into the game in flying form after hitting the ground running at Roma.

Hungary team news

Hungary head coach Marco Rossi has included five uncapped players in his panel for the Ireland game, but the key names remain to the fore, with Liverpool duo Dominik Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez expected to cause the Irish defence trouble. It is an experienced squad, with talent littered across Europe's top leagues, including Galatasaray forward Roland Sallai, RB Leipzig's Willi Orban and Le Havre's Loic Nego.

Adam Lang, who scored when the teams last met in a friendly game in Dublin during the summer of 2024, has not been called up, while legendary goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi has retired from the international game.
