South Africa Women vs Germany Women Betting Tips: Latest odds, team news, preview and predictions

Germany only need a point to guarantee they top Group B of the Women’s World Cup but will have their eyes set on claiming all three against South Africa on Monday.

Having won their first two games by a 1-0 scoreline, Martina Voss-Tecklenburg’s side will be hoping for a more convincing win when they take on Desiree Ellis’ point-less charges in Montpellier.

Latest Odds

The Europeans are unsurprisingly heavy 1/10 (1.10) favourites with bet365 to win this one, whilst South Africa are available at 25/1 (26.0) to win a World Cup match for the first time and put themselves in with a chance of qualifying for the knockouts.

A draw would give South Africa their first ever point in the competition and that is priced at 15/2 (8.50).

Team News

Voss-Tecklenburg made three changes for her side’s win over China and could rotate more for this one, although teenage star Giulia Gwinn is likely to keep her place after impressing so far.

Thembi Kgatlana is set to lead South Africa’s attack again whilst centre-back Janine van Wyk will hope to captain her side to a famous point.

Preview

Although a point will suffice for Germany, they are unlikely to rest on their laurels ahead of the knockout stages.

Winning the group will ensure that they play the third-place side in either Group A, C or D, and a convincing victory at Stade de la Mosson will send a message to other teams in the tournament.

South Africa largely rode their luck in their 1-0 defeat to China on Thursday night and were fortunate not to have conceded more, which could come to pass against their European opponents on Monday.

Tips and Predictions

Only having scored two goals at the World Cup so far is a little out of character for Germany, who scored 38 times in eight qualifying games and could put a poor South African defence to the sword.

bet365 offer 6/4 (2.50) that Germany win with a -3 handicap and if Banyana Banyana defend like they did against China, it could be a long afternoon for them.
