California vs Duke team news & key players
California Golden Bears team news
Quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele has led the charge, throwing for 1,242 yards, eight touchdowns, and four picks while keeping the Bears’ offense moving through the air. His top weapon, Trond Grizzell, has hauled in 344 yards, and Jacob De Jesus has added another 245 yards and two scores to the passing attack.
The run game, powered by Kendrick Raphael, gives Cal needed balance — the junior back has piled up 347 yards and two touchdowns as the workhorse of the offense.
On the defensive side, Cade Uluave has been all over the field with 40 tackles, while ballhawk Hezekiah Masses has anchored the secondary with four interceptions, making him one of the most dangerous defensive playmakers in the ACC.
Duke Blue Devils team news
For Duke, sophomore quarterback Darian Mensah has been nothing short of spectacular. The young signal-caller has thrown for 1,573 yards, 13 touchdowns, and just two interceptions while completing an efficient 69% of his passes. He’s spreading the ball around with confidence — Cooper Barkate has emerged as his top target with 409 yards and three scores, while Sahmir Hagans and Andrel Anthony have combined for 365 yards and seven touchdowns, giving Duke’s aerial attack real bite.
The ground game has been equally effective. Nate Sheppard has rumbled for 356 yards, while Anderson Castle has chipped in 235 yards and four touchdowns, keeping defenses guessing. Defensively, Caleb Weaver continues to set the tone with 36 tackles, and edge rusher Vincent Anthony Jr. has been a menace in the backfield with five sacks.
After back-to-back ACC wins in which they’ve put up 83 total points, Duke looks like a team on the rise — well-balanced, well-coached, and finally clicking at the right time.
The challenge won’t be easy, though. California has quietly built a 4-1 record and shown resilience after a rough shutout loss to San Diego State earlier in the year. Since then, the Golden Bears have ripped off two straight, including that nail-biter over Boston College.
