Africa - Managing Editor

Biography: I studied journalism at Rhodes University and began my career writing features for a variety of entertainment magazines. I soon moved from print to digital and began focusing on sports when I joined the Perform Group in 2014. After covering such diverse sports stories as the Oscar Pistorius trial and aeroplanes full of cash heading to the Ghana men's national team at the Brazil World Cup, I began to focus exclusively on football and GOAL.

My Football Story: I'm a lifelong Spurs fan who found himself a long way from Tottenham. I once dreamed of winning the Ballon d'Or as a goalkeeper but discovered I was better at stringing sentences together than I was at world-class saves.

Areas of Expertise:

  • PSL (South African domestic league)
  • Tottenham Hotspur
  • African continental competitions at club and international level

Favourite football memory: The one thing I desperately wanted to achieve as a goalkeeper was to score a goal. In my second-last match before retiring, on a windy, freezing Joburg winter pitch I launched the ball long and one bounce off that rock hard pitch and it looped over their keeper and in! I am not ashamed to admit I celebrated more than if I'd scored a winner in the World Cup final.

  1. Kaze: Chiefs can only get better

The Amakhosi co-coach is adamant that his team is on an upward trajectory following their clinical 2-0 victory over Magesi FC on Saturday night. Goals from youngsters Wandile Duba and Mfundo Vilakazi ensured the Soweto giants secured back-to-back wins, moving them up to fourth in the Premier Soccer League standings. Despite the positive result, Kaze insists there is still plenty of room for improvement as the club chases a top-three finish.

  2. Al Ahly to appeal R10m Riveiro FIFA ruling

The Egyptian giants have escalated their legal battle with their former head coach by filing an official appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The move comes after FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber ordered the club to pay the Spaniard a significant compensation package following his brief stint in Cairo.

  1. Dolly calls for punishment of referees who make mistakes

Referees play a critical role in any football competition but a long line of controversial decisions in South African football are undermining the integrity of the officials. Virtually all of the PSL's coaches have pointed out various refereeing mistakes during the season but, as the 33-year-old former Mamelodi Sundowns player points out, the officals who make these mistakes rarely, if ever, are punished for their errors.

  2. Nkota valued at R60m amid Saudi exit talk

The 21-year-old South African attacker has not enjoyed much playing time of late but that does not seem to have affected his valuation, nor foreign clubs appetite for the former Orlando Pirates star's services. His agent has been talking up both factors and also assured worried fans that the player is safe as the Middle East conflict spreads around the region.

  3. Ex-Chiefs coach reveals all - 'I was told which players to buy, who to select, and how to set up tactically'

With Amakhosi's recent slump in form, there has been a lot of noise surrounding the club, its players, coaches, and fans. And now, adding to the chorus of advice and criticism comes Stuart Baxter, who had two stints in the hot seat. The first was a trophy-filled success, but the second spell was an ill-fated one, and he left before the 2021/22 season was finished.
