The Florida International Panthers (2-3, 0-1 C-USA) head into Tuesday night's clash at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium looking to stop the bleeding. They've dropped two straight and are desperate to turn the tide when they face a red-hot Western Kentucky squad (5-1, 3-0 C-USA) at 8 PM ET.
For FIU, things have gone south fast since their rivalry win over Florida Atlantic. Losses to Delaware and UConn have sapped the early-season optimism, and their road form hasn't helped either; they've come up empty in back-to-back away games. The Panthers are putting up a meager 21.2 points per game, ranking 116th nationally, and while their ground game (175.6 yards per game) has been respectable, the passing attack has been middling at best, averaging just 188.6 yards.
Western Kentucky, on the other hand, looks like a team hitting its stride. Since their lone blemish against Toledo, the Hilltoppers have ripped off three straight wins, over Nevada, Missouri State, and Delaware. Confidence is sky-high in Bowling Green, and with their high-powered offense humming, they'll fancy their chances of making it four straight under the lights on Tuesday.

Western Kentucky vs Florida International news & key players
Western Kentucky Hilltoppers team news
The Hilltoppers’ attack is as balanced as it is dangerous. They're putting up 33.7 points per game (50th nationally), airing it out for 306.2 yards per contest while adding 123.3 on the ground. Quarterback Maverick McIvor has been the steady hand steering the ship, completing 68 percent of his passes for 1,704 yards, 12 touchdowns, and just two picks. The backfield tandem is led by La’Vell Wright, who's turned 37 carries into 203 yards and five scores, while receiver Matthew Henry has been McIvor’s top weapon downfield, hauling in 21 passes for 377 yards and three touchdowns.
Defensively, Western Kentucky isn't elite but has been solid when it matters. They allow 22.8 points per game (61st nationally) and have done a good job containing opposing quarterbacks, surrendering only 217.8 passing yards on average. The one glaring weakness? Their run defense — giving up 204.4 rushing yards per game — something FIU's ground-heavy approach could try to exploit.
Florida International Panthers team news
For the Panthers, the offense runs through quarterback Keyone Jenkins, who’s shown flashes of brilliance despite inconsistency. He’s completed 63 percent of his throws for 775 yards, two touchdowns, and four interceptions, while adding 72 rushing yards and four scores on the ground. Running back Kejon Owens has been the bright spot, leading the team with 463 yards and five touchdowns on 76 carries, providing a steady spark out of the backfield. Out wide, Alex Perry remains Jenkins’ favorite target, with 16 grabs for 194 yards and two touchdowns.
The problem for FIU, however, lies on the other side of the ball. The Panthers' defense has been leaking points all season, giving up 32 per game (122nd in the nation). They're allowing opponents to throw for nearly 285 yards per contest while giving up another 158.5 on the ground — a recipe for disaster against a Western Kentucky offense that thrives on balance and pace.
