For Universitario, this marks a long-awaited return to the business end of South America's top club competition, their first appearance in the knockout stages since 2010, when they suffered penalty shootout heartbreak against São Paulo. This time around, they punched their ticket by finishing second in a fiercely competitive group alongside River Plate, Independiente del Valle, and Barcelona SC, collecting eight points in the process. Having ended that 15-year wait, the Peruvians will be determined to seize the moment and make their mark.
