Sunderland travel to the Dr. Magalhaes Pessoa stadium in Leiria to face Torreense in the Europa League, as Regis Le Bris's side look to build on their continental involvement this season.
The Black Cats arrive in Portugal carrying the weight of a difficult run in the Premier League. Their most recent league outing ended in a 5-3 defeat to Manchester City, and a 2-0 loss to Brighton before that has left Sunderland sitting 14th in the top flight, still searching for the kind of consistency that would ease concerns about their place in the division.
Sunderland did show a different side in Europe earlier this season, beating AZ Alkmaar 1-0 in their previous Europa League fixture. That result demonstrated the squad has the depth and discipline to compete across competitions, even if the league form remains uneven.
Torreense, competing in Liga Portugal 2 domestically, bring their own Europa League experience to this fixture. Luis Tralhao's side claimed a win over Lillestroem in their last continental outing, though they sit 10th in the Europa League standings and have been inconsistent in domestic play.
Sunderland captain Granit Xhaka carries off-field attention into this trip after receiving a two-year probation and a suspended fine related to a fraudulent Covid-19 vaccination certificate — a matter the club will be keen to put aside as they focus on the pitch.

How to watch on the Big Screen
Watching on your phone or laptop is fine, but live sports belongs on the big screen. Here is how to get the VPN working on your TV:
- Smart TVs & Fire Stick: Most Android-based TVs and devices like the Amazon Fire TV Stick or Google Chromecast with Google TV have native VPN apps. Simply search for your VPN provider in the app store on your TV, log in, and connect just like you would on your phone.
- Apple TV, Roku & Consoles: These devices often don't support direct VPN apps. The easiest workaround is to use Smart DNS (usually found in your VPN account settings) or Mirror/Cast the stream from your VPN-connected phone or laptop to your TV.
