Seattle Reign FC returns to NWSL regular-season action this Friday, August 1, with a high-stakes West Coast clash against Angel City FC. After a month-long break, the Reign are riding a wave of momentum, looking to build on a strong run that’s seen them go unbeaten in five straight matches across all competitions.
Angel City currently finds itself near the bottom of the table in 11th place, sitting on 15 points through 13 games. They've picked up four wins, three draws, and six losses so far this campaign.
The two sides last squared off on March 30 at BMO Stadium, where the Reign fell just short in a 2-1 defeat. That match, only Seattle's second road outing of the year, was also their first loss of the 2025 season. The lone Reign goal came after Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic won a penalty, coolly dispatched by Ji So-Yun to briefly level the score before Angel City reclaimed the lead.

Team news & squads
Seattle Reign FC team news
Heading into this week's fixture, Seattle looks sharp. The Reign bagged seven points from a challenging road stretch against San Diego Wave, Chicago Stars, and Utah Royals before the break, capping that run with an explosive 4-1 win in Utah, their highest-scoring performance of the season. Ji So-Yun, Maddie Dahlien, and Emeri Adames (who grabbed a brace) were all on the scoresheet.
Seattle didn't take their foot off the gas during the pause in league play either. They defeated Japan's Urawa Red Diamonds 2-1 behind a brace from returning defender Sofia Huerta, and played to a 0-0 draw against rivals Portland Thorns before winning in penalties, thanks in part to goalkeeper Claudia Dickey's two saves and Maddie Mercado's decisive spot kick.
Now, all eyes are on new signing Mia Fishel, who joined the Reign in a headline-making move during the break. The forward has already offered glimpses of her quality in the friendlies and could make her long-awaited NWSL debut on Friday. Huerta, who's been in sharp form since returning from loan, is also in line for her first league appearance since summer 2024.
Angel City FC team news
Angel City, meanwhile, comes into the contest buoyed by a 4-2 friendly win over USL Super League side Carolina Ascent. Alyssa Thompson stole the show in that one, netting all four goals — a club first. The 19-year-old phenom now has five goals this season and added another pair for the USWNT during the international break. Alongside her, Riley Tiernan has been quietly lethal, topping Angel City’s scoring chart with seven goals in league play.
