Team news & squads
Cruz Azul team news
Cruz Azul, meanwhile, will arrive a bit short-handed. Andres Montano is still on the mend from a long-term ACL injury and isn't expected to return before late January 2026. There’s also uncertainty surrounding forward Gabriel Fernandez, who's dealing with a knee issue and will be assessed closer to kickoff.
Still, Angel Sepulveda remains the main man up front. The striker, who led the scoring charts in this year's Concacaf Champions Cup with nine goals, including one against Seattle, has carried that form into Liga MX play with four goals in his first three matches, tied for the league lead. He shares that top spot with Cruz Azul's new Argentine import, Jose Paradela, who's hit the ground running with three goals in as many appearances.
Seattle Sounders FC team news
As for Seattle, injuries continue to pose problems for Brian Schmetzer's side. Midfield anchor Joao Paulo is nursing a knee issue and won't be back before the tail end of August, while Jordan Morris remains out with a shoulder problem likely to keep him sidelined until September.
The Sounders will also be without winger Paul Arriola, who is still recovering from a torn ACL. On top of that, Paul Rothrock (hand), Stuart Russell Hawkins (hip), and veteran keeper Stefan Frei (head) are all eyeing returns sometime in mid-to-late August.
