They led 7-0 after one, 16-3 at the break, and 16-10 heading into the final period. Even with a 23-13 cushion inside the last 10 minutes, they couldn’t close it out, allowing the Raiders to rally and tie things up as time expired.
Statistically, Seattle gave up more yards (392-368) but edged the first-down count (23-21), won the turnover battle (2-1), and controlled the clock slightly (31:08 to 28:52). A potential loss was dodged when Jalan Gaines swatted away a 55-yard field goal attempt at the buzzer.
Big-money quarterback Sam Darnold — fresh off a $100 million offseason deal — stayed on the sidelines. Instead, backup hopeful Drew Lock (12-of-22, 147 yards, TD, INT, 4 rush yards) handled the bulk of the work, while rookie Jalen Milroe (6-of-10, 61 yards, 37 rush yards) flashed his dual-threat ability. Their final two drives stalled into punts, sealing the defeat. Statistically, it wasn’t pretty — the Chiefs were outgained 355-249, surrendered 24 first downs compared to their own 17, and narrowly lost the possession battle, 30:24 to 29:36. That said, they did force three turnovers, though they coughed it up twice themselves.
Patrick Mahomes was barely on the field, but made his one pass count — a one-yard touchdown strike to Jason Brownlee. Through the air, Robert Tonyan (3 catches, 49 yards) made the biggest splash, while Nikko Remigio, Elijhah Badger, and Jalen Royals chipped in with modest gains. Whether Mahomes and the starters see snaps this week remains up in the air — Reid will likely keep that card close to his chest until gameday.
