The New England Patriots will wrap up their preseason slate with a familiar dance partner, squaring off against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. This will be the 32nd preseason clash between the two sides — more than the Patriots have faced any other opponent.

For years, it became tradition, as New England and New York closed out the preseason finale together for 16 straight seasons between 2005 and 2019, then again in 2021. In fact, they even opened the regular season against each other in 2022.

Fresh off a 20-12 victory over Minnesota that pushed their preseason record to 2-0, the Patriots now eye what would be just the fifth unbeaten preseason in franchise history.

The Giants, meanwhile, have their gaze fixed firmly on Sept. 7, when they’ll travel to Landover to kick off the regular season against the Washington Commanders. That opener is only three weeks away — a blink in NFL time — and Thursday’s tilt with Mike Vrabel’s Patriots will be their final tune-up before the real campaign begins.

New York have come out swinging this preseason, winning their first two tune-ups in convincing fashion. Now, with only the New England Patriots left on the docket this Thursday night, the question looms large — can Big Blue ride this wave, close out the exhibition slate unblemished, and carry that momentum straight into a fast start when the games begin to matter?

New York Giants vs New England Patriots team news

New York Giants team news

Giants fans are eager to see just how much rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart gets on the field after showing plenty of promise in his first two outings. With starters expected to log more snaps than in the previous games, there’s a real chance Dart gets extended time working alongside the first-team offense.

Another storyline to watch is the battle at corner, where Cor'Dale Flott and Deonte Banks are going head-to-head for the CB2 role. On top of that, fringe roster hopefuls like Beaux Collins, Montrell Washington, and Dante Miller will be fighting tooth and nail to prove they belong after eye-catching preseasons.

The buzz around the Giants is growing — can rookie Dart actually push Wilson for the QB1 spot? Brian Daboll has made it clear that Wilson is his starter, but the youngster has turned plenty of heads this summer. Talk of shipping out Winston feels far-fetched, though; at $4 million per year, he’s a bargain backup who also carries weight in the locker room.

At wideout, Malik Nabers hasn't practiced in a week, with eyes firmly on being ready for Washington. Jalin Hyatt flashed with a 21-yard grab, while rookie Isaiah Collins is carving out a niche with his toughness and special teams play. Montrell Washington continues to impress but may be a practice-squad swing option. Skattebo's return to practice would ease IR concerns, while Miller's strong preseason and special-teams work could earn him a roster spot here or elsewhere.

Tight end remains intriguing — Greg Dulcich has made plays but feels on the outside looking in. Injuries to Manhertz and Bellinger could shake things up as the position battle unfolds.

New England Patriots team news

The Patriots roll in with plenty of momentum, having crushed the Commanders 48-18 in Week 1 before handling the Vikings 20-12 last week. Two rookies, in particular, have turned heads: second-round back TreVeyon Henderson, who punched in a touchdown on limited carries against Minnesota, and undrafted wideout Efton Chism III, who continues to look like the steal of camp after another big performance — six catches, 71 yards, and a score.

At quarterback, New England has leaned on Josh Dobbs and Ben Wooldridge. Dobbs, in particular, looked sharp last game, going 11-of-16 for 106 yards and a touchdown.
