Watch Alphonso Davies' incredible solo goal for Canada that prompted Drake to request to meet Bayern star

World-famous musical artist Drake has texted Alphonso Davies to set up a meeting after the Bayern Munich star's stunning solo goal for Canada against Panama on Wednesday.

Davies ran half the length of the field before finding the net in the 66th minute to put Canada ahead 2-1 in a pivotal World Cup qualifying match, with the hosts ultimately claiming a 4-1 victory.

And Drake was seemingly impressed by what he saw from his countryman, with Canada head coach John Herman relaying the details of their conversation.

What happened?

With the game level at 1-1 midway through the second half, after Rolando Blackburn's early opener for Panama was cancelled out by a Michael Murillo own goal, there appeared to be little danger when a long ball was pumped forward for a visiting defender to shepherd out - but Davies had other ideas.

The Canadian robbed his opponent, cut inside and then beat another defender before giving the goalkeeper the eyes and finishing smartly at the near post, sparking wild celebrations among the home fans.

The bigger picture

Canada fell behind 1-0 after just five minutes to the side closest to them in the race for third in the CONCACAF table - the region's final World Cup spot that doesn't require a trip to the inter-confederation play-off.

Having only claimed consecutive draws entering into the game, the concession of the early goal could have been taken as an ominous sign.

However, Canada pulled out a victory with the help of Davies and are now on 10 points, two clear of Panama in the race for third.

On a personal note for Davies, the acknowledgement from a global superstar in Drake will be greatly appreciated as the Bayern full-back has built up a large online following of his own on social media.

Davies currently has 4.5 million TikTok followers, 4.1 million Instagram followers and almost 300,000 Twitter followers.
