The veteran Uruguayan striker was in derby action against Internacional on Sunday. He was unable to inspire his side to victory, as they slipped to an agonising 3-2 defeat, but gave them hope when firing in a long-range drive with 16 minutes still on the clock.

Setting his sights on the back of the net appeared to be a little ambitious when Suarez stepped up to the set piece a long way outside the box, but he was able to get enough power on his strike – as he fired through a defensive wall that fell to pieces in front of him – in order to find the bottom corner.

Suarez has hit 21 goals for Gremio in the 2023 campaign, with the South American frontman slowing no sign of slowing down after previously starring in Europe for the likes of Ajax, Liverpool, Barca and Atletico Madrid.

There has been talk of Suarez reuniting with former Barca team-mate Lionel Messi at Inter Miami in 2024, with Gremio prepared to bring his contract to a close at the end of the calendar year.
