    THE BIGGER PICTURE

McTominay enjoyed a dream debut campaign at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, posting a career-best return of 13 goals before soaking up the wild celebrations in Naples that accompanied a dramatic title triumph.

  • WHAT SCOTT MCTOMINAY'S FIRST COACH SAID

McTominay was named Serie A's MVP, with his first coach claiming that his game can be taken to even greater heights. Charlie Jackson, the founder of Matrix Soccer Academy, has told The Sun: “The best is yet to come for him. I don’t think you’ve seen anything yet.

“I used to say to his dad Frank, ‘He’ll never be looked at as world class and it’s a shame but he should be because he is’. He had success with Man United but to go and do what he’s now done … and there is much, much more to come. That’s the biggest thing that I can say about him - it’s just the tip of the iceberg, honestly.”

    DID YOU KNOW?

McTominay made his breakthrough at United in 2017 under Jose Mourinho, but was allowed to leave Manchester by Erik ten Hag. Jackson added: “Jose was just fantastic for him. Gave him his debut, looked after him.

“Scott always works off confidence and a pat on the back. If you believe in him, he’ll run over coals for you. [Antonio] Conte’s done that. Mourinho did that as well.”

  • WHAT NEXT?

McTominay, who will be gracing the Champions League again next season, is under contract at Napoli through to the summer of 2028.
