Man Utd considering two shock transfer options in search for new striker

According to The Athletic, United haven't ruled out the option of signing another striker and have held internal talks about Ivan Toney and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Both Premier League forwards have one year remaining on their contracts and have given no indication they are prepared to extend their deals at Brentford and Everton respectively.

Brentford have slapped a £60 million ($77m) asking price on Toney, but it's thought they would accept a number closer to £40m ($51m). Calvert-Lewin, meanwhile, could be signed for around £30m ($39m) due to Everton's financial situation, which saw the Toffees fall foul of the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules last season.

Ten Hag's side scored just 57 goals in the league last season - 39 fewer than Man City - and the season prior wasn't much better. In 2022-23, the Red Devils netted 58 times. Clearly, scoring has been a problem during the Dutchman's reign.

United need to balance the books before they can get the chequebook out. Having posted sizeable losses in their latest accounts, The Athletic's report claims 'major sales' are need to take place before another forward can be brought in.
