‘Don’t bother ever coming back’ – Liverpool fans vent at Trent Alexander-Arnold after Real Madrid-linked defender finally confirms exit

After several months of speculation regarding his future, the England international defender has confirmed that he will be leaving Anfield as a free agent when his contract expires at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

He has become a two-time Premier League title winner this season, while passing 350 appearances for his boyhood club, but the 26-year-old has decided that the time has come for a new challenge.

Alexander-Arnold has been heavily linked with La Liga giants Real Madrid. The expectation is that a switch to Spain will be completed that allows the buccaneering right-back to link up with Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior at Santiago Bernabeu.

Some Liverpool fans have not taken kindly to the news of an impending departure from one of their own. @HarlEB06 said: “Don’t bother ever coming back.” @IntoThemReds added: “Horrible. Do not play him another minute. Also, do not encourage him to clap The Kop last game, might as well not even turn up.”

@Wdiawara2 went on to say: “Leaving is a choice but leaving for free is the worst betrayal of the club.” On a similar theme, @MutCFC said: “Nothing wrong with leaving but to leave your childhood club on a free? that's a disgusting move.”

@HungarySzoboFPL summed up the general mood by saying: “The scouser NOT in our team. It’s a real shame. I understand the reasons why… but what could have been. A legend. An icon. For this club. For our club. That’s what you are leaving behind. It is genuinely a real shame. We will never forget the moments.”

Alexander-Arnold has won Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, Community Shield, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup titles with Liverpool. They have three more fixtures to take in this season, with the last of those taking place at Anfield against Crystal Palace on May 25.
