Chelsea quiet in the January window?! Mauricio Pochettino hints at lack of transfer activity as Blues boss says current players ‘need to step up’

After the team's narrow 3-2 win over Luton Town on Saturday, the Chelsea boss suggested that he is not too keen on making new additions in the upcoming January window but the final decision will be taken by the owners. He also urged the existing Blues players to step up and start performing consistently.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Pochettino said, "It is a thing that we are going to discuss with the owner. At the moment the most important is to work with our squad and our team. Players need to step up and be part of the squad and be available. From the beginning of the season, we suffer many injuries. Personally, I am not thinking of going into the market but it is something we will discuss with the owners and the sporting director."

After ending the 2022/23 season in the 12th position, the Blues had yet another nightmare start to the ongoing 2023/24 season having already lost eight Premier League matches in 20 outings. Fortunately, they ended the disappointing year on a high by registering back-to-back wins over Crystal Palace and Luton this week.

Pochettino's side will begin 2024 with an FA Cup third-round clash against Preston on January 6 before facing Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup semi-final on January 9.
