This evening’s NFL game between the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins comes with extra winnings for newly registered football bettors through the FanDuel Sportsbook bonus offer.
Well, somebody’s got to win this one. The New York Jets are visiting the Miami Dolphins for a game between two teams with zero wins and six combined losses on the year. FanDuel Sportsbook gives the Dolphins a (-2.5) edge on the spread for a 7:15 p.m. EST Monday Night Football tilt in Magic City. ESPN’s flagship channel has the broadcast from Hard Rock Stadium.
That (-2.5) points given for a home game would normally represent home-field advantage for Miami. However, this September there’s a question as to how much of a home field’s edge the ‘Fins actually boast. Fans are no longer confident in QB Tua Tagovailoa, who was badly outplayed by Buffalo’s phenom Josh Allen last weekend. It’s weird that MNF’s point total is a healthy O/U (44.5).
When two teams are losing sloppy, high-scoring games in which they lost the turnover battle, NFL oddsmakers will add points to the Over/Under in speculation that either club’s wayward QB will score points for his team - or help to score points for the other one by throwing INTs. The Jets’ quarterback Tyrod Taylor can’t be blamed as badly for his turnovers, though.
New York is running the rock so poorly that Taylor’s 48 yards represented the lead in Jets rushing yards in Week 3. The Jets’ bad stat line would look worse if it weren’t for a late comeback effort in last week’s 29-27 loss to Tampa Bay that gave New York a miraculous-if-brief lead. Taylor is anticipated to be replaced in Week 4 by Justin Fields, now on the mend from a concussion.
Tagovailoa easily leads Fields in FanDuel’s passing props for tonight’s Dolphins-Jets clash, with an O/U (237.5) passing yardage line compared to a dismal O/U (186.5) FanDuel forecast for Fields.
Simultaneous MNF action will take place when the Cincinnati Bengals visit the Denver Broncos on ABC at 8:15 p.m. Eastern Time. The Denver Broncos are curious (-7.5) favorites in conditions that won’t feel too “Rocky Mountain” yet for the Bengals, who’re 2-1 while the Broncos are 1-2.
For once, FanDuel’s oddsmakers are letting themselves be swayed by very recent outcomes instead of the history. Cincinnati was a plain pitiful road team last week, falling by 38 points to the Minnesota Vikings. Denver didn’t win its Week 3 game, either, but the Broncos fought the Chargers 23-20.
The Bengals have beaten the Broncos in three of the last four meetings, including a contest at Mile High last December. That shows that even if Denver weather does turn nasty, Cincinnati can defeat Denver in the latter team’s trademark thin air. But the Broncos’ (-460) moneyline, in addition to point spread lines giving more than a TD, hint that Denver won’t need 70-yard kicks to win.
Cincinnati’s running game looks so meek away from home turf that RB J.K. Robbins of the Broncos should be leading RB Chase Brown of the Bengals by more than his current 11 yards in FanDuel O/U player-prop markets. Dobbins does have far superior (-140) yards to cross the pylons tonight.
