Awoniyi scores in Royal Excel Mouscron’s loss to Agbo's Standard Liege

The 20-year-old got the leveller but was not enough as Mircea Rednic’s side bowed to the Reds in a Belgian topflight on Friday evening

Taiwo Awoniyi scored as Royal Excel Mouscron suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Standard Liege in a Belgian First Division A clash at Stade Le Canonnier.

The Mouscron outfit went behind when Sebastien Locigno turned the ball into his net in the 33rd minute to hand Ricardo Sa Pinto’s men the lead.

Awoniyi then restored parity for his side in the 49th minute of the game after ushering the ball over the goal line.

Orlando Sa's 75th minute header ensured the visitors retook the lead. And Edmilson Junior put the game beyond the hosts after he converted from the penalty spot at the death.

The Nigerian featured from start to finish while his compatriot, Uche Agbo, who ended up on the winning side, was also in action for the entire duration of the encounter.

Awoniyi has now registered four goals in nine league outings this term and will be looking to add to the tally when Mouscron confront Sint-Truiden in the next Belgian topflight outing on Thursday.
