Newcastle United v Tottenham Betting: Magpies capable of inflicting early Spurs setback

Tottenham kick off their campaign by returning to the scene of one of their most disappointing recent defeats.

The final game of the 2015-16 season saw Spurs lose 5-1 to an already relegated Newcastle, a result which meant Mauricio Pochettino's men were overtaken by arch-rivals Arsenal who finished above them for yet another year.

Last term, however, Spurs finally finished seven points clear of the Gunners ending 20 years of neighbourly pain and the north Londoners will be hoping to get off to a winning start against the newly promoted Magpies.

Newcastle's last stint in the top flight saw them relegated despite a strong record at home with the Tyneside outfit scoring more goals in their own stadium than the side that finished second in the table that season.

Rafa Benitez's men are offered at 17/4 (5.25) with dabblebet to pick up three points in their opening game while the visitors can be backed at 8/13 (1.61) and the draw is offered at 11/4 (3.75)

For the last two seasons, Tottenham have had the stingiest defence in the division, yet last season they only managed five clean sheets on the road. Pochettino's men also scored in all but five of their games away from home, with both teams to score generally proving a profitable selection in Spurs' away matches.

A repeat is offered at 8/11 (1.73) and this is a bet which has paid out in each of the last four Premier League meetings between the sides. Of those four meetings, Newcastle have won three and the Magpies are offered at a healthy-looking 15/2 (8.50) to win and concede once more.

If this fixture generally produces goals then backing at least three to be scored at 3/4 (1.75) could appeal, while over 3.5 goals has paid out in four of the last six games between these sides and is offered at 9/5 (2.80)
