'Man Utd about to see the best Lukaku' - Herrera expecting goal boost for Belgian

Manchester United are set to see “the best Romelu Lukaku in the next games”, says Ander Herrera, with the Belgian having broken a serious goal drought.

The £75 million ($96m) striker had gone 12 club games without finding the target heading into a Premier League clash with Southampton.

His barren run was stretched to 981 minutes in that contest before finally hitting the back of the net.

Lukaku’s effort helped United to recover from falling two down against the Saints to take a point, while mounting pressure was lifted from his shoulders.

Herrera believes there will be plenty more to come from the 25-year-old over the coming weeks, telling reporters after a 2-2 draw at St Mary’s: “When the ball was fed to him [Lukaku], he held it for the team.

“He was not selfish at all, he was playing for us without shining, but he was good for the team and he has to build on that.

“He played a fantastic 60 minutes and he scored which is very important for the strikers.

“I think we are going to see the best Lukaku in the next games.”

United need Lukaku to rediscover his spark as a frustrating stalemate on the road means that they remain stuck in seventh spot in the Premier League table.

The hectic festive schedule will present them with plenty of opportunities to start climbing the standings, though, starting with a home date against Arsenal on Wednesday.

Herrera is already looking forward to that fixture, with the importance of it not lost on those at Old Trafford as they endeavour to force their way back into the top-four battle.

“I know we are far from the top four but we cannot go crazy now about the table,” said Herrera, who was also among the goals against Southampton.

“We just have to try and win every game. That’s how we will reach the top four.

“The only thing we can do is give everything on Wednesday against Arsenal and then Saturday against Fulham. We should approach the Arsenal game like a final.”

United have gone three Premier League games without a win, with a derby defeat to Manchester City in mid-November followed by draws against Crystal Palace and Southampton.
