Mamelodi Sundowns squandered games in hand says, coach Mosimane

Mamelodi Sundowns did the double over their Tshwane neighbours on Wednesday night.

Following the drubbing that SuperSport United suffered a week ago, Matsatsantsa put in an organised display. But an 82nd minute Hlompho Kekana header, saw Masandawana claim valuable three points in the Tshwane Derby.

In the aftermath of Wednesday’s victory, Sundowns’ coach Pitso Mosimane was satisfied with his troop’s display on the night.

“It was a very closely contested game,” Mosimane told SuperSport TV.

“You could never tell where it was going to go. A good delivery inside the box, Keke (Kekana) got it. I remember against Bloemfontein Celtic it went wide, tonight it went in. It was a good delivery from Teko (Modise), he showed a little bit of experience. You can’t say much about this game to say, we were better,” Mosimane said.

“They were well organised. They put three in the midfield and we couldn’t get our angles. Last time we could put the ball through their midfield, so that we could get it in front of their defenders but they blocked it.

“The last 10 or 15 minutes we kept probing hoping that we could get it. But the balls were not coming from the right side, we were getting the angles, but were not putting it in the box. You can’t say anything, they were organised. This is the high level of football, this was a Champions League game,” Mosimane added.

The 52-year-old tactician also hailed the rise of youngster Motjeka Madisha. The 22-year-old’s impressive display in Atteridgeville saw him win yet another man of the match award and, Mosimane believes the defender has made an unbelievable transition into the senior team.

"I think Madisha must be saying that I've been wasting his time, all this time at MDC (MultiChoice Diski Challenge), but unbelievable, unbelievable player," Mosimane expressed.

"Timing right, speed right, unbelievable. Look he played (Caf) Champions League last year you know, but this level is another level. I am so happy for him. But we are grinding the results."

Despite the Brazilians squandering their games in hand, victory against SuperSport saw The Brazilians move within three points of the summit.

"No, we squandered our games in hand, that’s a fact and they are no longer there. Maybe Sundowns is like this, maybe Sundowns want it when it is on the edge and 1-0 you go through, 1-0 again, I'm happy to take one nil’s if it allows the five we will take it, but this is not a five tonight, let's be honest," Mosimane said.

"(It was a well organised SuperSport United team, we probed and probed, but it was not there. But I am happy for the boys, I am happy for the supporters they have been patient with us. Five games in a row we didn't win, two losses 3 draws they kept singing, they are still singing tonight. We should give them credit. They kept us going," he concluded.
