Kuffour dreading Gyan's Afcon withdrawal

Former Ghana defender Samuel Kuffour is worried over the possible absence of Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan ahead of the quarter-final clash with DR Congo at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The four-time champions are set to face their Congolese counterparts on Sunday after finishing second in Group D.

Gyan is, however, a major injury doubt for the last eight fixture following a suspected groin injury in the last game against Egypt on Wednesday.

“My worry is [about] how long Asamoah Gyan will take to recover and play the other game," Kuffour said, as reported by My Joy Online.

“He is our talisman, leader and our striker, so we need him badly in this team.

“When Jordan [Ayew] plays around him, he always plays better because he makes the run and scores the goals.

"The team will miss him and I will look at what the coach will bring out against DR Congo."

Ghana's all-time top scorer with 49 goals, Gyan has scored once at the ongoing Afcon, netting the only goal in the win over Mali on matchday two.

His goal against the Eagles also made him the Black Stars' all-time top scorer at the Afcon with eight goals.

The striker is expected to undergo further medical examination on Thursday to ascertain the degree of his latest injury.
