Kotoko defender Quao out for six weeks with leg injury

Asante Kotoko defender Evans Quao has been ruled out for approximately six weeks after undergoing surgery on his left leg, the club have announced.

The development has ruled the 26-year-old out of the club's opening day game against Liberty Professionals on Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium as well as their next five fixtures.

The versatile player picked up the injury in the Porcupine Warriors' 2-0 victory over Natcoster FC during their last pre-season friendly and underwent a scan at the club's medical centre on Monday.

"Evans Quao will be out of action for up to six weeks after sustaining a left-foot injury in a friendly match last Saturday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium," a club's statement said.

"The versatile defender's left foot has as a result has been cast in a below backslap P.O.P. which doctors are expected to replace with a full case P.O.P. after two weeks. Quao, has been one of Coach Zdravko Logarusic's favourite defensive midfielders in the pre-season work," the statement added.

Quao, who joined from Medeama last season, was sensational in the second-half of the campaign as Kotoko recovered from their poor start to finish fifth on final day.

Goal understand that midfielder Frank Sarfo Gyamfi also picked a knock and will have to pass a late fitness test ahead of the weekend's clash.
