Ifeanyi Matthew powers Lillestrom past Valerenga

Ifeanyi Matthew's first half goal ensured Lillestrom sealed maximum points with a 2-1 victory over Valeranga in the Eliteserien on Saturday.

The Arne Erlandsen’s men bounced back from a heavy 3-1 defeat to Strømsgodset in their last league outing with a massive win at the Arasen Stadion.

Frode Kippe got Lillestrom off to a perfect start in front of the home fans with a goal in the ninth minute but was cancelled out as Christian Grindheim restored parity for the visitors in the 29th minute.

With two minutes left to play for in the first half, Matthew put the Arasen Stadion outfit ahead again in what what turned out to be the match winning goal as both sides could not find the back of the net after the restart.

The Nigeria international has now scored two goals in 20 league games this season to match his record of two goals in eight games last year.

Lillestrom are placed on the seventh spot in the Norwegian topflight league with 26 points from 20 games and welcome Stabæk for their next game on August 26.
