'We had to show improvement' - Gombe United's Fabiyi on Rivers United win

Emmanuel Fabiyi says that Gombe United had to show improvement with their victory over Rivers United on Sunday.

Manu Garba's men sealed a 1-0 win over the Pride of Rivers and the goalkeeper admits that they drew inspiration from their draw against ABS to get the result.

"We are very happy that we got a victory against Rivers United," Fabiyi told Goal.

"I think the draw in Ilorin helped us to improve our performance against Rivers. Even when we were one man down against ABS, we still fight on strongly and got the draw.

"On returning home, we had to play out our hearts to win because we needed to show the fans that we have improved and also encourage the efforts of the coach.

"It will be disappointing for us losing or drawing at home after securing an away draw. I must honestly admit the point we got from Ilorin really motivated us," he added.

"We really worked hard to win and it was a very important victory for us.

"We started well and scored in the first half against them [Rivers United] though we missed several scoring chances.

"In the second half, we struggled but held on to that goal. Rivers scored at a point in the game but the referee cancelled it for an offside," he concluded.
