Ghana hope to end U17 Afcon hoodoo, says Fabin

Ghana U17 coach Paa Kwesi Fabin has revealed that he is aiming to guide the Black Starlets to qualify for the 2017 World U17 Cup to be staged in India.

The Black Starlets are in Gabon to prepare ahead of the Africa U17 Cup of Nations which kicks off this weekend. They have been paired with host Gabon, Cameroon and Guinea in Group A.

“The last ten years have not been good for Ghana football, especially at the U-17 level since we have failed to make it to the World Cup, which hitherto was a constant feature for the country," Fabien said.

"So the main aim of this team will be to qualify to the World Cup slated for India later this year.

“The coaching staff, management and the players are hoping that we will seal qualification by the second game in our group. We want to qualify in grand style and to achieve it by the end of the first two games so that it would put us in a relax mood to tackle the rest of the games,” added Fabin.

Ghana announced their final 21-man squad for the tournament on Wednesday and will lock horns with Cameroon on May 14 in Port Gentil in the opening game of the group before they face Gabon three days later and Guinea on May 20.
