FKF Shield Cup: Tusker register slim win to reach quarter-finals

Tusker FC progressed to the quarters of Shield Cup after downing minnows Bungoma Super Stars by a solitary goal on Sunday.

The brewers came into the match aiming at bouncing back from the humiliating 5-2 defeat against Kariobangi Sharks in their league outing. They, however, missed the services of influential players like Amos Asembeka, Timothy Otieno and Hashim Sempala.

Bungoma Superstars had to rely on Sunday Majimbo for goals, as well as Munyendo Boniface, with Wasike Iddy providing that creative mind.

Majimbo, who has scored eight goals for his team in Division B and one in this tournament, had good shots in the first half, but Patrick Matasi was equal to the task as he ensured they do not hit the target. In real sense, it was a frustrating first half for the brewers who failed to get the ball past the defenders.

After the break, the eleven times league champions came back stronger; Peter Nzuki and Sydney Ochieng coming in for Brian Osumba and Jackson Macharia respectively.

With 75 minutes gone, Bungoma gave away a free kick in a promising position, Boniface Muchiri took it and goalkeeper Michael Wekesa spilt it, giving the on rushing Nzuki a chance to tap it in and give his team victory.

Tusker joins Kariobangi Sharks, River Plate and Police FC who have already made it to the next stage of the competition.
