English Premier League Betting Predictions: EPL Preseason Bet Tips

The English Premier League is already one of the most exciting leagues in the world. However, this season could be especially interesting due to the scheduling hurdles teams must tackle.

With the UEFA Nations League fixtures in the summer and the World Cup interrupting the schedule in the winter, a condensed calendar will leave rosters tired and needing to make adjustments.

This could open the door for a shakeup in the table, with the chase for spots in next season's Champions League and the fight to avoid relegation looming.

The summer transfer window is still open, but top teams have already made key additions outside the Premier League, such as Erling Haaland (Manchester City) and Darwin Nunez (Liverpool).

Meanwhile, several top players in the EPL have changed their allegiance, joining new teams within the league, such as Raheem Sterling (Chelsea), Richarlison (Tottenham), Kalvin Phillips (Manchester City), and Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal).

All of these variables make this a fascinating time to bet on the Premier League and take a gamble on some longshots to cash in.

All eyes will be on powerhouses Manchester City (-160) and Liverpool (+275) to continue their feud atop the Premier League this season, and the odds reflect that.

That said, several contenders such as Tottenham (+1200), Chelsea (+1400), and Arsenal (+4000) have made key additions during the summer transfer window to improve their clubs. They could play spoiler to the league favorites.

Fulham, Bournemouth, and Nottingham Forest will join the EPL after earning promotion last season but will have an uphill battle to earn the right to stay, with each team among the three favorites to face relegation.

English Premier League Favorite To Win

Manchester City (-160)

Manchester City is once again the favorite to take home the Premier League title. However, Pep Guardiola will have an interesting season ahead of him after a sizable shift in personnel on offense, making a repeat less of a foregone conclusion than many think.

The loss of Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus will remove 34 goals plus assists from the Man City attack. That said, the addition of Erling Haaland (Borussia Dortmund) and Julian Alvarez (River Plate) to play in front of Kevin De Bruyne should go a long way in making up the difference.

One could argue that the 21-year-old Haaland is an upgrade over what the club had last season, but it is never a given that international transfers will perform as expected in the Premier League.

Guardiola will also need to navigate a season without team captain Fernandinho, who joined Athletico Paranaense. Kalvin Phillips should slot in perfectly alongside Rodri in defensive midfield.

The bottom line for Manchester City is that they have an incredibly talented roster, led by one of the best coaching staffs in the world. As the new players build cohesion, there will be growing pains, but it is difficult to imagine the result will be anything other than another trophy-filled season.

English Premier League Sleeper Picks To Win

Tottenham Hotspur (+1400)

The north London club has been making noise during the transfer window with the addition of Richarlison (Everton) and Yves Bissouma (Brighton), along with the free agent signing of midfielder Ivan Perišić (Inter Milan).

Tottenham will add this new group of talent to a roster that already features Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, and Dejan Kulusevski. In fact, only Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah registered more goal involvements (goals plus assists) last season than Kane (26) or Son (30).

Antonio Conte is a proven winner with massive success as a manager in both Serie A (Juventus & Inter Milan) and the Premier League (Chelsea) and is one of the true difference makers in the sport as a coach.

Chelsea (+1600)

Chelsea finds themselves in the middle of a semi-rebuild after a disappointing campaign last season that ended with a change of ownership and their prize transfer addition, Romelu Lukaku, being sent out on loan to Inter Milan.

The surprise is how quickly new ownership, led by Todd Boehly, has been able to pivot this offseason, casting a wide net to improve the roster.

First, following the departure of Lukaku, Chelsea brought in star forward Raheem Sterling from Manchester City to bolster the team’s attack on the wing. The 27-year-old will bring much-needed experience and stability to a talented group led by attacking midfielder Mason Mount.

The London club would then turn around and add the services of one of the best defenders in the world by acquiring center back Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli to a defense already anchored by Thiago Silva and Reece James.

These two additions turned chaos into confidence heading into Chelsea’s pre-season tour in the United States, with the promise of more moves on the immediate horizon.

Manager Thomas Tuchel will likely have a full arsenal, no pun intended, of talented players at his disposal this season and could be in line to make a sooner-than-expected push for the top of the EPL table.

Arsenal (+5000)

Arsenal has not been able to claim a Premier League trophy since 2003-04. However, it will look to stop its championship drought this season with the addition of Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus (Manchester City), along with midfielder Fabio Vieira (FC Porto) and the versatile Oleksandr Zinchenko (Manchester City).

The Gunners are a very young club that has struggled to perform consistently in the Premier League. For example, Manchester City (29) and Liverpool (28) were the only teams to record more victories than Arsenal (22) last season. Unfortunately, they had the fewest draws in the league (3) and the fourth-most defeats of teams in the top 10.

Arsenal could be a fascinating team to watch with Jesus and Bukayo Saka on the attack. However, if the club is going to take a step forward this season, they will need to add another quality defender during the transfer window.

English Premier League Best Bet To Win

Liverpool (+225)

Manchester City deserves to be the favorite to win the Premier League. However, they should not be favored by such a wide margin. That makes Jürgen Klopp’s club a solid value at (+225) to finish at the top of the table.

Liverpool is dealing with the departure of star forward Sadio Mané (Bayern Munich), meaning that the newly acquired Darwin Nunez will need to hit the ground running if they are going to compete with Man City.

Remember, the Premier League title was decided by just one point last season between the two clubs.

English Premier League Prop Bets

Top Goal Scorer: Darwin Nunez (+1400)

Manchester City's Erling Haaland is the favorite to win the Golden Boot at (+250). The Norwegian striker has outperformed his xG total by 12.48 over three seasons and should be leading Pep Guardiola’s attack this year.

That said, it is unknown how Man City will use Haaland in their system, making a bet at (+250) a bit risky.

Instead, you should look to a different newcomer to the EPL in Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez at (+1400). While Mohamed Salah has been awarded the Golden Boot on three different occasions, he has relied on a volume of opportunity rather than his finishing ability to score.

Nunez, like Haaland, vastly outperformed his xG total last year. However, the Portuguese striker was able to top his expected output by 10.27 last season alone in the Liga Portugal.

Both Haaland and Nunez will face competition for goal-scoring opportunities, but each should lead their respective team’s attack. The value here comes in the vast gap in odds between Nunez and other category favorites like Harry Kane, making the new Liverpool addition the best bet to be the top goal scorer in the Premier League.

Chelsea: Top 4 Finish (-145)

As noted above, Chelsea boasts a strong roster with the additions of Sterling, Koulibaly, and new ownership that could result in a surprise EPL run this season.

At (-145), Chelsea comes in as an equal favorite for a top-four finish with Tottenham.

As it stands, each club should fill out the top of the table with Manchester City and Liverpool, and Arsenal just a step behind and Manchester United in the middle of a legitimate rebuild. This makes a top-four finish for either Chelsea or Tottenham a viable play.

Newcastle United: Top 6 Finish (+250)

It may only be a matter of time before Newcastle United is challenging for the EPL title. The Magpies are currently run by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, one of the wealthiest owners in the sport.

This offseason, Newcastle has already brought in goalkeeper Nick Pope (Burnley), left back Matt Targett (Aston Villa), and center back Sven Botman (LOSC Lille) to join Eddie Howe’s squad that won 12 of their final 18 games last season.

St. James’ Park may be another season or two away from serious Premier League title aspirations, but there is much excitement surrounding this Newcastle club. A (+250) bet for a top-six finish is a solid risk.

Leeds United: Relegated from EPL (+200)

The addition of USMNT standouts Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson may paint an exciting picture for the long-term direction of Leeds United. However, the transfers, along with right back Rasmus Kristensen (Red Bull Salzburg) and midfielder Marc Roca (Bayern Munich), fall well short of replacing the value of Kalvin Phillips (Manchester City) and Raphinha (FC Barcelona).

Leeds narrowly escaped relegation from the Premier League in 2021-22, and the situation at Elland Road has only become more challenging this season.
