Derby County vs West Brom Betting Tips: Latest odds, team news, preview and predictions

Two of last season’s Championship play-off teams meet on Saturday lunchtime as Derby County welcome West Brom to Pride Park.

The Baggies lost to Midlands rivals Aston Villa in the semi-finals before Dean Smith’s men went onto beat the Rams at Wembley, and both will be looking to reach the top six again this season.

Latest Odds

Derby did the double over West Brom last term, beating them 3-1 at home on the final day to confirm their sixth-place finish, and are 11/8 (2.37) with bet365 to take the points again here.

Slaven Bilic’s side are one of just four remaining unbeaten sides in the Championship and can be backed at 15/8 (2.87) to claim their third win of the season, with the draw priced at 12/5 (3.40).

Team News

Phillip Cocu could make changes to the eleven that lost at home to Bristol City in midweek, with Jack Marriott likely to make his first league start of the season. Jayden Bogle is injured along with Duane Holmes, Andre Wisdom and Craig Forsyth.

Kenneth Zohore will be hoping to start on Saturday after his late penalty rescued a point for West Brom on Wednesday night. Hal Robson-Kanu and Ahmed Hegazi are out.

Preview

The season is only four games old but already Derby have demonstrated some of the inconsistency that forced them to settle for sixth place last term.

After opening the season with a 2-1 win at relegated Huddersfield, the Rams have since drawn two and lost one to mark a patchy start to Cocu’s reign in the Midlands.

West Brom, meanwhile, have won two and drawn two so far this season, although they have not made it easy for themselves by conceding the first goal on three of those occasions.

Tips and Predictions

There should be plenty of goals in this one, given that these teams only boast a single clean sheet between them, but the 8/13 (1.62) quote for both teams to score is too skinny for a single wager.

Instead, bet365’s price of 4/5 (1.80) on over 2.5 goals looks the way to go. The selection would have paid out in three of Derby’s four games and in both of West Brom’s away fixtures this season.
