Ajax Cape Town sign former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns defender Gaxa

Ajax Cape Town have bolstered their defence with the signing of former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns defender Siboniso Gaxa.

The Cape side announced Gaxa’s acquisition in a statement released on their website on Friday.

Gaxa has been training with Ajax at their base in Parow for the past few weeks and it was thought that after the arrival of Siyanda Zwane from Mamelodi Sundowns, his services would no longer be needed.

But the club has since announced his capture for an undisclosed duration.

“I’m delighted to have joined Ajax Cape Town and I am really grateful to head coach Muhsin [Ertugral] and the management for the opportunity to play football again,” Gaxa told his club's offical website.

“I am well aware of the situation the club finds itself in at the moment and I just want to help with my experience, I’ve played professionally for well over a decade and I believe I can contribute on and off the field in assisting this club move up the log standings.

“What I have seen here [at Ikamva], the talent is amazing, the club structure is something that has really impressed me and I am grateful to be part of this unique institution," the versatile defender continued.

“I am really grateful to Mushin for showing faith in me and I can’t wait to start my journey here,” he concluded.

The 33-year-old player is well travelled and he has also had stints with SuperSport United and Lierse in the Belgian Pro League.

Gaxa was last in the books of Bidvest Wits where he won the Premier Soccer League (PSL) title last season and becomes Ertugral's fourth singing after Zwane, Yannick Zakri, Samuel Julies and Fagrie Lakay.

Defender Zwane and forward Zakri both joined Ajax on loan from the Brazilians.
