Accam scores hat-trick as Chicago Fire run riot in MLS

Ghana midfielder David Accam scored a hat-trick in Chicago Fire's 4-0 victory over Orlando City in Major League Soccer on Saturday.

The 26-year-old handed Fire the lead by the third minute after beating his marker to head home his effort, before making it 2-0 five minutes later after connecting a long pass from former Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.

After the break, Accam turned from a scorer to provide another goal by the 52nd minute as Nemanja Nikolic planted the ball beyond the reach of the onrushing goalkeeper to take his personal tally for the season to 14 goals.

On 63rd minute, Accam underlined his enormous qualities by scoring his side's fourth goal of the day, completing his first hat-trick for Fire from the spot.

The former Helsingborg star was brought down in the box by Scott Sutter and he sent the goalkeeper to the wrong way as his side took their unbeaten home run to 12 games. Accam has 10 goals this season, one goal better than his total tally last season.

In other related news, Ghana defenders Harrison Afful and Jonathan Mensah played full throttle for Columbus Crew when they thrashed Montreal Impact 4-1 on Saturday. Youngster Mohammed Abu was an unused substitute for Crew while Dominic Oduro also sat on the bench for Montreal.

Accam and Abu are expected to join the Black Stars from their respective clubs as Ghana face Mexico and USA in international friendly games on June 28 and July 1 respectively in the United States.
