Kennesaw State opens its 2025 campaign on the road this Saturday when the Owls travel to Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium to face Wake Forest. Both programs are looking to turn the page after disappointing 2024 seasons.
The Owls are eager to leave behind last year’s 2-10 finish and begin a new chapter under first-time head coach Jerry Mack. The hire signals a fresh direction for the program, with Mack tasked with sparking improvement right out of the gate.
Wake Forest, meanwhile, is also working to erase the memory of a frustrating 4-8 record. The Demon Deacons made a significant change of their own, bringing in Jake Dickert after his four-year run at Washington State. His arrival is expected to inject new life into a program that has slipped in recent years.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons team news
For Wake Forest, Auburn transfer Robby Ashford has been tabbed the starting quarterback. Ashford brings a versatile skill set after throwing for 324 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 227 yards and two more scores last season at South Carolina. He’ll be backed up by Charlotte transfer Deshawn Purdie, who tossed for 1,802 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2024. The rushing attack will once again feature Demond Claiborne, who topped 1,000 yards with 11 touchdowns last fall. He’ll be joined by Tate Carney, who added eight scores on 83 carries.
Claiborne is also a key receiving option, pairing with Micah Mays Jr. as returning playmakers in the passing game. To round out the receiving corps, the Deacons dipped into the transfer portal, landing Carlos Hernandez (Washington State), Karate Brenson (Tennessee Tech), Sterling Berkhalter (Cincinnati), and Sawyer Racanelli (Montana). Kicker Matthew Dennis also returns after converting all 36 extra points and hitting 16 of 20 field goals last season.
Kennesaw State Owls team news
At quarterback, Kennesaw State will roll with Dexter Williams II, who flashed his dual-threat ability last season at Georgia Southern. He completed 19 of 30 passes for 248 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for 45 yards and a score. Behind him, Amari Odom (formerly of Wofford) and Tommy Ulatowski (from Kent State) provide experienced depth.
On the ground, Coleman Bennett is expected to lead the backfield after scoring in limited work at Rice. Chase Belcher (West Georgia) and Alexander Diggs add complementary options. The receiving corps is led by Tykeem Wallace, Gabriel Banyard, and Christian Moss, all of whom bring returning production. On special teams, Britton Williams steps in as the new kicker.
