Mats Hummels' next club revealed?! Champions League runner-up in talks with shock Spanish outfit after Borussia Dortmund exit

Hummels only needs to agree "details" to become a Mallorca player, according to Timo Boll, an agent who has been recruited to help with the negotiations process. It comes after confirmation of the centre-back, who will turn 36 at the end of the calendar year, leaving Borussia Dortmund this month.

Mallorca Zeitung has reported that Hummels will most likely need to take a pay cut to secure a move to Mallorca. But he already owns a house on the Spanish island and it could suit his desire for a more quiet existence at this stage of his career. Mallorca finished 15th in La Liga in 2023-24 but will compete in the next Supercopa de Espana as a result of reaching the Copa del Rey final. They had been relegated in 2020 but returned in 2021.

"It's just a matter of details," Boll is quoted as saying by Mallorca Zeitung. "Since neither [Hummels nor his father] speak Spanish, they called me. We were also involved in the ultimately failed transfer of John Brooks [in 2022]. [Hummels] doesn't care about money. He just wants to live in peace."

Dortmund face a summer of strengthening, with the team that Edin Terzic guided to the Champions League final already being dismantled. In addition to Terzic himself resigning, Hummels leaving and Marcos Reus retiring, Marius Wolf is out of contract, while permanent transfers for loan signings Jadon Sancho and Ian Maatsen could prove too much to bear financially. It means the club will have to hit the market if they are to compete with Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga in 2024-25.
