Atlanta United adding a goalkeeper to their ranks! Josh Cohen - who was called up to USMNT duty in June - set to join MLS club after becoming free agent in the summer

With Atlanta United's starting goalkeeper, Brad Guzan, facing uncertainties for the 2024 season after spending eight years in the club, Cohen has been shortlisted as his replacement, according to ESPN. A deal will be thrashed out in the next few days once the minor details in the contract are ironed out.

Cohen, a California native, comes with a strong resume, having most recently played for Maccabi Haifa in the Israeli Premier League. His notable achievements include being named the league's Player of the Season in 2020-21 and contributing to Maccabi Haifa's journey in the UEFA Champions League. After leaving Maccabi Haifa in the summer, Cohen has been without a club until now.

Cohen was involved in a feud with Atlanta United where his representative accused the club of violating MLS rules during negotiations. The complaint alleged that Cohen was offered a contract significantly below his market value, leading to a pause in negotiations. The circumstances surrounding the resumption of talks remain unclear.

Cohen will hope to make a push for a place in the USMNT squad by putting his best in the 2024 MLS season which might make USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter take notice of him ahead of the 2024 Copa America. Although he was called for a training camp in June, he was ignored for the roster for the Concacaf Nations League Final Four.
