Toronto FC signs Spanish midfielder Victor Vazquez

The Canadian side adds an experienced attacking midfielder in the FC Barcelona product.

Toronto FC announced the signing of Spanish attacking midfielder Victor Vazquez from Liga MX side Cruz Azul.

Vazquez, 30, is a product of Barcelona's youth academy, and mostly represented the club's youth and reserve sides during his time in Catalonia. 

“We are excited to bring Victor Vázquez to Toronto FC and provide our team with another experienced midfielder,” TFC general manager Tim Bezbatchenko said in a news release.

“Victor developed in the Barcelona youth system which is recognized worldwide. He is a creative player with experience playing in an attacking midfield role but also centrally which gives us flexibility in our system. He will be a welcomed addition to our club.”

Vazquez enjoyed the most success of his pro career in Belgium with Club Brugge, where he was named the Belgian league’s player of the season in 2014-15.

TFC used targeted allocation money to acquire Vazquez.
